A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments

ABATE of South Carolina, Inc. is the motorcyclists' rights organization of South Carolina. Our members brought freedom of choice to South Carolina bikers in June of 1980; ABATE amended South Carolina's mandatory motorcycle helmet law to allow adult freedom of choice. ABATE stands for A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments. Our philosophy is to defend liberty; while we do not oppose safety devices we oppose laws that mandate the usage of devices.

Painting fingernails while driving?Yes, you read that correctly.  While I'm all for "Motorcycle Awareness" education, part of the problem is little to no penalty for murdering innocent bikers because you weren't paying attention to driving.

"Zaffke's motorcycle was stopped at a red light at the intersection -- which Morrison described as being T-shaped with a stop light -- when a Chevy Impala, driven by a woman in her 40s, struck the bike from behind at a high rate of speed, Morrison said."

In this latest example, a woman was reportedly painting her fingernails, while driving down the road.  She rammed into Anita Zaffke, who was sitting on her bike at a red light.  The penalty? "She was cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident"

We need legislation to make serious penalties for killing someone in order for some people to actually pay attention when they get behind the wheel of a cage.

I had someone run into me while I was stopped at a red light several years ago.  It was good it was only 10-15 MPH or I would probably not be around to mention it.  Now I watch my mirrors every time I stop or slow down quickly.
