A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments

ABATE of South Carolina, Inc. is the motorcyclists' rights organization of South Carolina. Our members brought freedom of choice to South Carolina bikers in June of 1980; ABATE amended South Carolina's mandatory motorcycle helmet law to allow adult freedom of choice. ABATE stands for A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments. Our philosophy is to defend liberty; while we do not oppose safety devices we oppose laws that mandate the usage of devices.

Dan Forrest spoke today with Lt. Cosper of the GSP and the following information was relayed to us: The southbound Roadblock was shutdown early due to weather, no citations were issues during its operation, the I-95 Roadblock is still in operation, no numbers given to us on citations from it. The GSP also noted these counted as *2* stops, thus we have 4 remaining. Lt. Cosper was quoted as saying "The GSP has nothing further to discuss with A.B.A.T.E. of Ga" when refusing a meeting with Dan Forrest of A.B.A.T.E. Lt Cosper referred us back to the GOHS who A.B.A.T.E. members might recall referred us to the GSP for comment.

South Carolina Motorcycle Statutes

Our friends at Tom McGrath's Motorcycle Law Group have compiled a list of laws that apply to motorcyclists in South Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia.

South Carolina has several statutes that directly relate to motorcyclists, including licensure, inspections, and use of public roads. If you feel that your rights have been violated call them at 1-800-321-8968 and speak with one of their attorneys who practice in South Carolina.
