Here's a status update on current legislation related to motorcycles for North Carolina.

House Bill 392 is the helmet law exception bill which would provide an exception to those 18 or over. It needs to go through the transportation committee and hasn't been scheduled yet.

Senate Bill 480 has been introduced as a Senate companion bill to the above, entitled Let Those Who Ride Decide.
(ps...a companion bill..now that is what I like to see!!!)

House Bill 381 was heard in Judiciary B committee yesterday. It wasn't voted on. It doesn't look like there will be opposition, so I hope they allow a vote on it. That's the bill that has the potential to stop motorcycle only checkpoints, or as I prefer to say roadblocks.

House Bill 375 is the bill to stop all roadblocks. It hasn't been scheduled to be heard in committee.

House Bill 113 is a stiffer penalties bill for running motorcycles off the road has got through the house, is in the senate and is scheduled for the senate transportation committee.

House Bill 407 is an ATV helmet requirements bill so that if someone is on a public road they have to wear a helmet. The current law is they need to wear one no matter where they are, which is an intrusion against what people do on private property.
