ABATE of South Carolina is aware of the deceptive billboards recently erected by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. The billboards state that in 2015 one hundred and thirty six (136) motorcyclists died on South Carolina roads and that seventy six percent (76%) were not wearing a helmet. Clearly the South Carolina Department of Public Safety cherry picked these statistics to imply a correlation where none exists.

ABATE of South Carolina is disappointed that the South Carolina Department of Public Safety has elected to use thousands of taxpayer dollars on this misleading and deceptive campaign. These billboards are also insensitive to the friends and family members of the one hundred and thirty six (136) motorcyclists lost in 2015.

ABATE of South Carolina will work to have future taxpayer dollars spent in a more beneficial and meaningful campaign that will promote motorcycle awareness and education.
